Mark Mitchell and Peter Johansson are USOC Developmental Coaches of the Year
The Skating Club of Boston congratulates Mark Mitchell and Peter Johansson, who were selected 2006 Coach of the Year by the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC). The announcement was made 5/3/07 in Washington, D.C. In winning this award, which is open to eligible coaches of all Olympic sports, Mitchell and Johansson were chosen above such distinguished names as John Hynes (USA Hockey), Frank Madden (U.S. Equestrian), Johnny Prado (USA Judo) and Bill Rose (USA Swimming).
Mitchell and Johansson joined forces in 1995, coming to SCOB to help rebuild the skating program here. Since that time, they have coached 34 national-level skaters to 21 U.S. medals and 13 international skaters to 22 international medals.
Mitchell was a three-time U.S. medallist and finished fourth at the 1993 World Figure Skating Championships. Johansson was a four-time Swedish champion and 1988 Olympian.
