Longtime SCOB coaches Mark Mitchell and Peter Johansson were among five outstanding individuals recognized by U.S. Figure Skating and the Professional Skaters Association for their achievement in the sport of figure skating at the 2007 PSA International Conference and tradeshow. The Developmental Coach of the Year award is presented each year to the individual or team of coaches who have made a significant impact on an athlete or athletes competing nationally at the developmental levels of juvenile, intermediate, novice, and junior. Mitchell and Johansson were well represented during the 2006-07 competitive season by Stephen Carriere, who won the gold medal at both the 2007 World Junior Championships and 2007 Junior Grand Prix Final, Juliana Cannarozzo, a winner of two Junior Grand Prix events, Curran Oi, who took fourth place in the junior men’s division at the 2007 State Farm U.S. Championships, Scott Smith, who placed 5th in senior men’s at the U.S. Championships, and Getchan Donlan and Bryna Oi, the 2007 U.S. intermediate ladies gold and bronze medallists, respectively.

The Developmental Coach of the Year award is selected by the U.S. Figure Skating Coaches Committee and PSA Board of Directors. Recipients must exemplify the best behavior within the USOC, U.S. Figure Skating, and PSA coaching standards, serving as a role model to both skaters and other coaches.
