Basic Skills 2008

The Club looked festive on Saturday, with large balloon bouquets greeting the competitors, tables selling logo sweatshirts, and tasty snacks ready at the café. It was time for our ninth annual Basic Skills competition. This competition provides an opportunity for young skaters to experience competition in a small-event format, with a maximum of four skaters per event. This year we welcomed 230 skaters and judged over 300 starts in events for Basic Elements & Programs, Compulsory Groups, Freeskate Elements & Programs, Test Track and Well-Balanced Beginner-Preliminary, Showcase, and Theatre on Ice.
Our Club is fortunate to have an abundance of members who are generous with their time and talents. Linda Blount and Paul Crugnola co-chaired the competition committee and saw the competition through from opening announcement to the end of the event. Many skaters and members filled the chairs of the judging panel, accounting group and registration desks, while others contributed to the effort as runners, on-ice and off-ice monitors, and working sales tables. Thank you to all our volunteers for making Saturday, February 9th such a great day for so many young skaters!
