Encore of Boston
Encore of Boston is a theatre on ice skating team open to skaters of all ages (pre-preliminary through senior, free skate or ice dance). We are welcoming new participants for the coming season. Our Theare on Ice (TOI) program is ongoing from September through June, with competitions and show performances duringthe winter and spring. The Skating Club of Boston offers special TOI memberships to all non-members.
Encore Theatre on Ice of Boston is directed by Tasney Mazzarino. Tasney is the TOI coach for the 2 time National Adult Champions, Imagica Theatre on Ice of Boston!
TOI is a form of competitive figure skating that started in Europe, where it is known as Ballet on Ice. There are now more than 50 registered teams in the United States! TOI combines the grace of figure skating with the excitement of theater and dance. Teams consist of between 8 and 30 skaters. The programs are judged by regular U.S. Figure Skating judges and are evaluated on technical merit and presentation with emphasis on originality, costuming, artistry and musciality.
Skaters, both competitive and noncompetitive, can learn and grow on a theatre team. Best of all, a team can draw club skaters together and increase club spirit. The 2008-2009 skating season was our first season as a team! The ages of the team varied from 7-16 years of age. We skated at Ice Chips, the North Shore Open, and the National Theatre on Ice Competition in Chicago, IL. During the 2009-2010 season we plan to visit Nationals as well, which will be in Troy Ohio next June 2010.
Both skaters and clubs can experience great rewards from forming and/or joining a Theatre on Ice team. Skaters receive the following benefits:
- A chance to develop the dramatic and musical side of their skating
- A chance to be part of a team while continuing to use their technical skills
- A chance to travel both locally and to other parts of the country
- A chance to make new friends both in and out of the club
- A chance to relax while performing and competing for competitive skaters
